Athlete Leadership In Action
“AWESOME”, is the word used by Athlete Leadership Coordinator for the Caribbean Initiative, to describe the role played by Anita “Lynx” Moncur, as she co hosted the first ever Caribbean Initiative Unified Leadership training.
“Lynx” is an Athlete Leader with Special Olympics Bahamas and has been participating in Special Olympics through various sporting activities for Thirty Seven (37) years. She has trained and competed locally, nationally and at the Special Olympics World Games in the sports of athletics, aquatics, bocce, bowling and equestrian, and for the past six years, she has taken on a somewhat expanded role. While her training and competitive activities as an athlete have been narrowed down to aquatics and bowling, she has signed on to a number of Athlete Leadership initiatives, including the Global Messenger Training program, an assistant bocce coach, and is the Inspirational Ambassador for Special Olympics Bahamas.
On February 19th, 2021, history was made for the Special Olympics Caribbean programmes, when the first ever Unified Leadership Training session (for programme National Directors, Board Chairs and Sports Directors) was held virtually, and was co hosted by Anita.
Joan Edwards, Athlete Leadership Coordinator for the Caribbean Initiative had nothing but high praise for Anita’s contributions to the training.
