Meet Our Athletes!

Vashni Thompson

Vashni Thompson, AKA Metro

Meet Vashni Thompson (AKA Metro), Special Olympics Bahamas Athlete, Global Messenger in training and Awareness Ambassador.

Vashni is a 2015 graduate of Stapledon School and is employed at Abilities Unlimited (Dolphin Drive), where she works in the ceramics department.

Vashni has been actively involved with Special Olympics Bahamas since 2011 and has trained in the sports of athletics, basketball, bocce, bowling, soccer and swimming. In recent years, she has narrowed her training activities to just 4 sports and even though her favorite sport can change from week to week,  she insists that her favorite sport is bocce.

Vashni is also a member of the Global Messenger Training program, where Special Olympics Athletes are trained in public speaking. Since joining the Global Messenger program in 2014, Vashni has delivered many speeches, welcomed hundreds of spectators at Special Olympics Bahamas events and performed the official opening at several of our local and National competitions. Among her most outstanding accomplishments to date is her presentation as a Featured Athlete Speaker at the 2015 LETR International Conference (held at Atlantis, Paradise Island), which was delivered to an audience of over 1200 Law Enforcement Officers from around the world.

This 4’ 10” ‘Ball of Excitement’ is always ready to represent Special Olympics Bahamas and has demonstrated many times over exactly what persons with intellectual disabilities are capable of once given the opportunity.
