Doron Forbes

Austin Green

Meet Deron William Forbes, Special Olympics athlete extraordinaire.

Deron has been an athlete with Special Olympics Bahamas for over 12 years and trains and competes in athletics, aquatics, basketball and soccer/football.

In 2015, he competed at the Special Olympics World Summer Games in LA in aquatics, where he won a bronze medal in the 25m freestyle, and a silver medal in the 4x25m freestyle relay. In 2019, Deron was again selected to the World Games team for Special Olympics Bahamas, but this time as a member of the track and field team, which traveled to Abu Dhabi, to compete in the 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games. Deron clearly demonstrated why athletics is considered to be his strongest sport and also justified his self proclamation as “King of the 400m track”, by winning a gold medal in his 400m event. He also secured a silver medal in the 200m, and anchored the Bahamas team to a silver medal finish in the men’s 4x400m relay. On the local scene, he continues to prove his dominance in the 400m by winning the gold medal for the past 4 years, at the Special Olympics Bahamas Track and Field Nationals.

For the 2nd consecutive year, Deron received the National Sports Award for “Male Athlete of the Year with a Disability” (2018, 2019), at the Annual National Sports Awards, hosted by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture.

Deron is currently employed as a landscaper with a private contractor and is described as an exemplary employee.

Congratulations Deron and continue to do well and make the entire Bahamas proud.
